No whining about concentraing solar power
Abengoa Solar could halt two projects if the U.S. government doesn't extend multiyear investment tax credits.

July 14, 2008 Spanish owned Abengoa Solar would suspend its plans to build a concentrating solar-thermal plant and a mirror manufacturing plant in the United States if the federal government doesn't extend a package of investment tax credits for eight years, a company official said Monday.

With oil >$130/bbl isn't Solar Energy a bargain?
Back in 2001 when oil was $40/bbl, we kept hearing that solar isn't quite cost effective yet. What I learned is that you can never satisfy a financial person. So what are these venture capital people doing with all that $$$? I'll be blunt, I'm still waiting for them to get off their collective asses!
I really can't answer the question I've asked. It simply fails to compute in my meager engineering mind. Will someone please say what the money community is waiting for? I want to provide CSP gensets that will supply electricity for the low fixed price of half of what oil generated electricity costs in fuel. Yet no one is beating down the doors of the alternative energy community.
Perhaps the con men have soured the field so much over the years that the investors are no longer capable of seeing a good deal when it's sitting in front of them? I dunno.
If you're thinking about solar energy in your future, let Solar & Thermal answer your questions. I can only hope that when the answers are given that the potential buyers will do a little homework. I really don't expect people to trust blindly, that's why I encourage scrutiny & dialog.
Once you know the truth, the decision will be easy and obvious. Now get off your ass and ask a question!

mea culpa -- I'm pro FairTax , anti fairtaxabsurdity, pro absurdityofabsurdity
A few weeks ago I was lambasting Mark about another one of his insane rantings. I mentioned that the only reason he has an audience is that Google Alerts scans for new posts with keywords in the title.
Well, my FairTax alert routinely triggers on his insane ravings ( Sorry, I just have to keep calling them that because critical thought seems to have left the man behind).
Today I discovered that he has deleted most of the posts I've made to his blog... That's OK, it's his blog, but what I'm offended by is that he somehow edited & reposted some of my comments using 'anonymous'. I suppose that's why he restricted comments from posting immediately.
I have an idea as to how he's managed to accomplish it. He posts something stupid, and restricts comments by fielding replies which he holds for moderation. Then he switches logins, and reposts the body as his anonymous alter ego... as if someone that crazy needs an alter ego. Then as the 'author' of all the posts, he can alter and edit as he pleases. Not that it makes his writings any less insane. It's obvious his style as 'anonymous' is still crazy old Mark, but we'll let him think he's fooling people.
Sorry for the length, here's the call to action, if you read 'absurdity' and you think Mark is insane, just flag his blog as inappropriate. We can't censor him, but we can shout him down! The only thing that will actually happen is he'll fall off the Google Alerts searches. This way he'll bother fewer people.

U.S. Freezes Solar Energy Projects
I read this article and I shook my head... The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) the agency that brought us raging wildfires from decades of fuel accumulation, has put the cabash on the future prosperity of the nation. No long diatribe today, it's Friday afterall.
But there is an alternative. Companies can put their solar power plant on their roof.
I think it's insane to not develop the desert south west, but it will take time, and it does little for the rest of the country. From Maine, to Florida, and all points west the Distributed Generation (DG) model of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) can continue to proceed uninterrupted by government foolishness.
As long as you own your roof, the BLM really can't say anything.
So here's the deal, consider your roof. For every 10,000 sq ft you can add about 25kW of electrical generation capacity. (I'm obviously addressing business owners here) Even at a measily $0.10 per kWh ( good luck finding power that cheap in another few years) that's worth more than $7,000 per year; before incentives!
Will it change the world? Eventually, probably not overnight, but at least it's agood start.
Until regular people decide that it's time to take charge of their situation, it's good to know that there are mechanisms in place that'll hamper and interfere with innovation & progress (BLM).
If your needs are more modest than a square mile (640 acres) of solar generation, give Solar & Thermal Systems a chance to help you out.
